Methods in Metabonomics

The course of a typical Metabonomic study can be characterized by different steps. First samples are collected in a animal or humand study. These samples are analyzed by an analytical method. The data analysis looks for similarities and differences in the spectra. Subsequently, these differences are assigned to known or unknown metabolites, which can be identified in a structure elucidation process. Finally, the scope of a metabonomics study is trying to understand the biological effects rendering a biochemical interpretation necessar. The methods applied in these steps are described in more detail on the next pages.
